What we measure
Melatonin (4) • Urine

Your melatonin level directly impacts your sleep cycle because it helps to induce sleep and to increase sleep duration.

Your cortisol level follows a cycle that is opposite of melatonin's and, in this role, it is responsible for signaling your body to be awake and responsive.
* Warnings
Sleep is a complex health concern and can be impacted by several factors. While this test is an important tool that gives you personalized insight into key hormones that impact sleep, there may also be other factors that are contributing to sleep problems. Therefore, we always encourage you to consult a health-care practitioner if you suspect a problem or concern with your sleeping habits.
Procedure
Sleep Test (Dry Urine Collection)
1. Test Activation
Login to Mygenbio.com. You will send you an invitation email for you to sign up and log in for Thorne Research website. Click the ‘Activate Test’ button on top of the main homepage, and Enter a 6-digit activation code on the back of the plastic clamshell box. To see your test result summary on Mygenbio.com’s ‘Test Result’ section, you MUST enter your ‘Test Status’ section and click the gray button to change its color to pink.
2. Sample Collection
You will be collecting 4 urine samples in 1 day and you may collect on any day you choose. (Please read Thorne research’s information brochure and get informed of the list of foods you might avoid the day before and the day of testing.)
Collection timings are : (1) immediately upon waking for the day (2) 2 hours after first collection (3) just before dinner (4) just before bedtime
Collect your urine in a clean cup. Saturate filter paper by dipping filter paper into the urine cup to the top black line. Until after your second collection, don’t eat anything, drink anything except water, or take a nutritional supplement or medication (unless otherwise advised by your health-care provider). Refrain from drinking more than 8 ounces of liquid during the hour before each collection to allow urine to concentrate. Don’t forget to precisely write your name, the date, and the time of collection on the card. Avoid touching filter paper while you are collecting samples. Allow filter paper to dry completely for the precise result, and store the sample in a safe and dry place.
3. Sample Return
Dry sample cards completely and seal them in a biohazard bag. Place collection cards into the plastic box in which it arrived. (Do NOT throw away the plastic box.) Apply a return label to the envelope and leave the envelope inside a mailbox or take it to any U.S. Postal Service (USPS) facility. Your shipping cost is prepaid.
